I have always loved words. I was a bookworm when I was young and fell in love with the art of poetry in high school. In college I majored in Journalism. And now, clearly the passion lives on through Real Eyes and teaching writing.
I suspect, that since all of humanity was created in the image of God, our passions and talents reflect Him as well. Our yearnings serve as bite size tastes of a scrumptiously delicious meal, like the free snacks on a stick they hand out at the grocery store on Saturdays. Our desires, our fixations, our loves… should wet our appetite for more of God and reveal Him to us in continuously profound ways. If they don’t, they are not of Him.
I am convinced God loved words long before I did. The fact that God ‘spoke’ creation into existence, is one reason. The fact that God manifests his truth through the ‘written word’ is another. Then there are the prophets whom God spoke through, the multiple languages of the world, and of course the speaking in tongues upon the fall of the Holy Spirit. But I was never more convinced than after reading John 1:1. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…”
Why would God define Jesus as ‘the Word’?
Any writer and reader would understand why. A word is a symbol. It symbolizes thought and emotion. Words allow one to express what is bubbling on the inside. Jesus is, in the above definition then, the full expression of God’s thoughts and feelings toward us. Understanding this puts Jesus’ life and being into perspective.
Everything Jesus did, was God speaking.
Not only does it further argue Jesus’ Diety, it makes your heart melt. God loves the world so much He would take the time to listen to our stories, forgive us, teach us, pray with us, eat with us, empower us and yes, die for us. Want to hear from God? Look at Jesus. Jesus’ life says every word God ever wanted to say to you.
