(revised entry from Dec 2011)

The overwhelming things I have wanted to do in my life, the things that seemed most impossible in feasibility and practicality, when I have stepped out and just done them, have proven to be most rewarding.

I wanted to dance professionally at the start of my college years. To explore it as a real possibility, I moved to the East Coast, left my in-state scholarships and attended a private college that had the dance world credibility necessary to succeed. After three months, I hated it. However, I ended up staying out East and enjoyed some of the best four years of my life—not to mention that season resurrected my love for journalism and God.

Next, I wanted to become fluent in Spanish. But to do so most effectively and time efficiently, I quit my well paying advertising job at one of the largest retail firms in the country, sold my things, and moved my husband and I to Central America for language school. We will forever be the result of international perspective.

I decided to work for myself. I think it is fair to say, wanting to work for myself has been… well, yes, overwhelming at times, but undoubtedly producing reward. Amazing the things you learn to do, skills you learn to apply, faith you are forced to exercise. How do you set fair and profitable rates? How do you build clientele? How do you legitimize your taxes and decide your business identification? How do you find a web designer? How do you account for billing? What software do I need?

I never could have imagined the deep satisfaction and life-giving nature Real Eyes would be for me (and my family) these past four years.

My point: Whatever your overwhelming thing is, in the back dusty corner of that mind of yours… do it. Think it through (but not so much that you think yourself out of it), pray about it, bounce it off some sound minds, and then sit down and make your game plan. Just do it.
